Life Assurance, Critical Illness and Income Protection

When assessing your personal situation and ascertaining whether you have planned appropriately for the future, it’s important to ask yourself a number of key questions:

If you’re the main breadwinner within the family and are unable to work due to an accident/long term sickness/serious illness, how would you maintain your standard of living? Who would pay the mortgage and bills, and could you cope with the stress and strain of financial insecurity as well as being unwell?

If you died, how would your family survive if there wasn’t sufficient protection in place? Would they be in danger of losing their home?

Is your mortgage covered against the events mentioned above and have you recently reviewed your protection arrangements? Have your circumstances changed? Were you originally a smoker and now a non smoker? Is the level of cover and type of plan still suitable and in line with your circumstances?

If you are a limited company or LLP, there are more tax efficient ways of paying for life cover than from taxed income. As the cost of life cover has reduced in many cases, you may find you’re paying more for cover than is necessary.
